Launches “KIBIT Amanogawa for Academia Program” to Support Academic Research; Up to 10 Projects to Be Selected to Accelerate the Creation of Innovative Pharmaceuticals Originating in Japan

 

Tokyo, Japan, July 7, 2026 - FRONTEO, Inc. (Headquarters: Tokyo, Japan; President & CEO: Masahiro Morimoto; hereinafter “FRONTEO”), guided by the philosophy of “Restoring Japan’s Position as a Global Hub for Drug Discovery,” is launching the “KIBIT Amanogawa for Academia Program,” an academic research support initiative that provides universities and research institutions with a license to use its proprietary medical paper search AI system, “KIBIT Amanogawa,” for approximately one year.
Through this program, up to 10 projects will be selected to support drug discovery research in academia. By delivering the medical paper search AI "KIBIT Amanogawa"—which uncovers previously unrecognized links between genes and diseases from a vast body of papers—to research sites, the program aims to foster new ideas among researchers and contribute to the creation of innovative pharmaceuticals originating in Japan.

Licenses will be provided on a laboratory or project basis

Eligibility and Conditions

・Students, staff, and researchers affiliated with universities, graduate schools, or research institutions in Japan
・Applicants must be able to present research results obtained using KIBIT Amanogawa during the license period through a conference presentation, publication of a paper, or a presentation at a seminar hosted by FRONTEO, and must also be able to participate in a debriefing session at the end of the license period.
・Applications from multiple laboratories within the same university or institution are permitted
・Only one application per laboratory or project is allowed

■Background of This Program
As drug discovery research becomes increasingly sophisticated and specialized, the role played by universities and research institutions in the creation of innovative pharmaceuticals is growing ever more important. Guided by the philosophy of “Restoring Japan’s Position as a Global Hub for Drug Discovery,” FRONTEO has strengthened its collaboration with academic institutions*1,2 and university-based biotech startups*3 both in Japan and abroad through its AI-driven drug discovery support service, “Drug Discovery AI Factory (DDAIF)”*4, which utilizes the company’s proprietary Equation-driven AI, “KIBIT”*5.

This program supports researchers in generating new ideas and hypotheses by enabling the use of “KIBIT Amanogawa” in basic research conducted in academia, which plays a leading role in the earliest stages of drug discovery research.
FRONTEO aims to continue contributing to the creation of innovative pharmaceuticals originating in Japan by strengthening research capabilities in academia.

"KIBIT Amanogawa" is a medical paper search AI system equipped with FRONTEO's proprietary natural language processing algorithm. It comprehensively analyzes more than 35 million publications and derives associations between genes and diseases not explicitly stated in published papers, through an approach called "discontinuous discovery."
Analysis results are visualized on a map, allowing the strength of associations and the positional relationships among papers to be grasped at a glance. This leads to encounters with findings that could not be reached through keyword searches, supporting researchers' hypothesis generation and new ideas.
It significantly reduces the vast amount of literature search work traditionally performed manually and enables comprehensive, unbiased analysis, allowing researchers to focus on their core research activities.
