NEW YORK, September 14, 2023 – FRONTEO (TSE: 2158) has added a new function to its proprietary AI review tool "KIBIT Automator," which enables investigation of data from various chat tools, to view emojis in Slack, Microsoft Teams, SMS, and other chat applications. FRONTEO has also added the ability to delete duplicate conversations across chats. These new functions will be implemented simultaneously to FRONTEO’s on-premise forensic tool "KIBIT XAMINER”.
In recent years, the rapid development of the digital world has rendered the use of IT routine, and has led to the continued increase in volume of electronic data managed by companies. Additionally, the use of chat has become more common for communicating internally triggered in part by the increase in communication due to the spread of remote work. In response to this situation, eDiscovery (electronic discovery) and digital forensics protocols involved with international litigation are increasingly targeting chat data as a data type with submission documents in the U.S. and in other global legal landscapes. In some cases, the content expressed by emojis in chats can influence the verdict, such that there is now a growing need to support review of chat data with investigations.
The new emoji viewing function, which allows users to view emojis exchanged in chat rooms under review, was developed in response to user requests for support of emojis, which are widely used in chat applications. With the addition of this functionality, reviewers can now see the expressions and emotions behind the emojis when conducting investigations and document reviews.
Due to the characteristics of chat, which allow for more casual communication than email, the volume of information per post is small, while the number of exchanges among multiple members is large, resulting in an enormous amount of duplicative messages. The deduplication function for chat is intended to improve the efficiency of chat review by deleting duplicate items collected from multiple custodians or individuals, in which messages are exchanged with exact matches in terms of date, time, and participants with each chat.
