NEW YORK, September 26, 2023 – FRONTEO (TSE: 2158) announces that it has received a patent application notice from the Japan Patent Office for a new technology that uses its proprietary AI engine "KIBIT" to analyze hashed¹⁾ confidential information that cannot be decrypted. At the time of the announcement of the development of this technology, its application to the disclosure of evidence in international lawsuits, which is expected to be effective in reducing the risk of confidential information leaking out of the country, attracted media attention.
<Patent Summary>
Application No : 2023-078058
Patent application date : May 10, 2023
In the past, when e-discovery (electronic discovery) and digital forensic investigations in international litigation required analysis by an outside organization or other parties, a vast amount of data containing confidential corporate information was taken out of the country in readable form, and the risk of leakage of confidential information was an issue in such cases.
This technology enables hashed data to be analyzed by KIBIT to obtain the analysis results (degree of relevance of documents to evidence, points of interest, AI analysis models, etc.) necessary for investigation purposes, and to submit only the necessary information as evidence by matching and identifying that information with the original data. From an economic security perspective, this technology enhances the confidentiality and security of data, whereas conventional information handling could lead to the risk of technological leaks and the resulting decline in Japan's international competitiveness.
